Case Study 2 - Major Outdoor Retailer

The Client

Go Outdoors are Britain’s biggest outdoor retailers and they were looking to build on their brand with a new flagship store in Bristol.

The Problem

The brief was to transform 35,000ft ² of dilapidated DIY store into a bright and welcoming space with a multimedia package, climbing wall and bespoke fixtures, within 12 weeks, for under £750,000.00.

To repair and then re-fit such a huge store in the time frame would have been a real challenge in any circumstances.  But in this case, the roof had failed a survey and needed completely refitting to meet current regulations, a lot of the building had been vandalised and the water ingress had caused a major problem with the electrics.

It was imperative to the client that we were able to handle all of the preparatory documentation along with liaising with the local authorities, HSE and landlords representatives.  This would allow Go Outdoors to concentrate on their core business and leave the management of the new site to us.

     

The Solution

Having built a relationship with this client over the past two years we were able to help them specify exactly what they wanted for their store, from security measures through shop layout to specialist joinery.

With specifications agreed, we began by stripping the roof and replacing it with the new design while simultaneously solving the external drainage issues, vandalism and constructing the new external tent display.  

Because we had the capacity to run several specialist teams at once, we were able to complete the roof and make the building water tight and secure whilst completing the all important external fit. Internally we could then continue the remedial works and new feature designs that would make the store exceptional.

     

The Outcome

The handover was completed 2 weeks ahead of schedule and we were able to incorporate a small café area within the costs originally set out.  Go Outdoors Bristol was opened in time for the busy autumn trade, and is now one of the most profitable stores in the group.
